Since 1978, Tony has been providing exceptional client service and advice. During that time, Tony has successfully guided clients through several economic cycles and challenging times, and his numerous accreditations attest to his commitment to providing the very best advice. Tony and his team recently were honored to be voted Orillia Today’s Readers’ Choice for Wealth Planning for 2013.
Tony specializes in retirement and estate planning with an emphasis on taxation for business owners, professionals, retirees, and pre-retirees. His personal mission statement is to serve as each client’s Chief Financial Officer so that they may have more time to enjoy life and have fun. Tony is a member of the Orillia District Chamber of Commerce, and a past board member of the Community Foundation of Orillia and Area. He has also volunteered with the Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital Foundation and was a member of the OSMH board of directors for 7 years. Tony has also chaired the Orillia & Area Physician Recruitment & Retention Committee. He continues to support his local community with various fund raising efforts.
Having been married to Annette for over three decades, Tony is the proud father of Kirstyn, Lindsay, Michael, and Adam, and a very proud grandfather to Hannah. Tony enjoys time with his family, mountain biking, road cycling, kayaking, snowshoeing, hiking, skiing, and a glass of fine red wine.
Annette Katarynych
Business Operations Manager
Annette is a graduate of McMaster University’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. After a number years in nursing (primarily Public Health Nursing), Annette made the decision to join Tony in the office with a vision to work together and grow the business.
Since the early 1980s, Annette has been involved in the financial services industry as an Administrative Associate and Business Manager. Over the years, she has completed extensive educational programs to understand and become proficient in the business.
Annette has been married to Tony for over three decades and together, have delighted in the accomplishments of their four children: Kirstyn, Lindsay, Michael, and Adam. Other members of the Katarynych family, Border Collies Charlee and Meka, join in on many family activities – skiing, biking, snowshoeing and hiking. Other outside interests include time spent with friends and of course, travel. Annette is regularly involved in fundraising efforts for the Canadian Cancer Society and is a member of the Board of Directors for Hospice Orillia.
Marino Fernandopulle, BASc, B.Sc. (Eng), MBA
Financial Advisor
Marino joined the team and transitioned to financial services industry in July 2015 after completing his MBA at York University’s Schulich School of Business. Prior to that, Marino enjoyed a successful 10-year career in the healthcare sector, working primarily in Corporate Strategy and Planning for hospitals such as St. Michael’s Hospital and University Health Network in Toronto.
Marino also holds an undergraduate degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Toronto. With that strong analytical background, he will support clients with their complex financial decisions, but he also also places a great deal of emphasis on teaching and coaching clients in order to become active participants in assuring their financial well-being. Working alongside Tony and the team, he is looking forward to simplify the world of personal finance in order help clients reach their goals. Marino is a fully licensed Associate Financial Advisor in good standing with the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada, and is working towards his Certified Financial Planning designation.
Marino is proud to call himself an Orillian after moving to the area with his wife Kirstyn and their daughter Hannah. Marino is currently an active member of the Orillia and Area Hospital Recruitment and Retention committee, as the Chair of the committee’s fundraising efforts. He is always looking for opportunities to use his skills and experience to support the community of Orillia.
In his spare time, Marino enjoys any excuse to get outdoors. Whether it’s cycling, skiing, watersports, or even just a long run to relax. Marino also loves cooking and spending time with family, cheering on Toronto’s sports teams, and a fine glass of scotch.
Michelle Pilgrim-Byers
Financial Advisor
Michelle has worked in the financial services industry since 2006 and joined us from RBC Dominion Securities in 2013. She has completed both her Canadian Securities Course and Conduct and Practices Handbook Course as well as the Wealth Management Essentials Course. She is also licensed in Life, Health and Sickness Insurance and holds a Human Resources Studies Diploma.
Michelle works alongside Tony and Melanie with the goal of helping clients build and preserve their wealth. Their team specializes in providing customized wealth planning advice and developing comprehensive strategies tailored to their clients' unique needs and goals.
Michelle is a member of Orillia Rotary Club and a past member of the Orillia Business Women’s Association, the Orillia Business Association and Warminster Elementary School's parent council. She firmly believes in giving back to her community and is involved in various fundraising efforts of the Canadian Cancer Society and the Terry Fox run. She has completed her 4th year participating in the Orillia’s Relay for life.
Michelle moved to Coldwater with her husband and daughter in 2008 and enjoys many outdoor activities the area has to offer. Her interests are focused on her family and enjoying her daughter’s many interests including figure skating, piano, choir and drama. She also enjoys travelling, reading, networking and spending time outdoors.
Melanie Tinney
Service Team Member
With more than 20 years in the financial services industry, Melanie brings a wealth of experience to the service team and has been with Assante since 2006.
Melanie lived in Orillia for 25 years before moving to the Coldwater area, where she lives with her husband Mark and their two children Joshua and Lucas. She thoroughly enjoys cheering on her sons at the hockey arena and also finds time for relaxing, reading, and bike riding with her family.
Melanie has been involved over the years as a volunteer with the United Way, Relay for Life, and the Canadian Breast Cancer Association. She has also managed a representative hockey team in the Coldwater Minor Hockey Association.
