Darren, the 2nd generation owner of The St-Georges Group, has over 15 years of experience in the industry. Having started contributing to the business while completing his bachelor of commerce in finance at the John Molson School of Business, he explored other avenues that took him to study and live in Australia for many years. Bolstered by his life experiences abroad, he reintegrated the business in 2009 as partial owner and completed the transition in 2015.

A strong believer in the strength of collaboration, as well as the view that investment advice in isolation is of little value, Darren has built his team to consist of leading professionals in key areas of taxation, financial and estate planning, and complementary insurance solutions.

Firm in his view that clients need to be engaged and fully understand the recommendations and strategies proposed, the families he works with appreciate his ability to simplify complex subjects matters. Furthermore, they appreciate his acknowledgement that peace of mind goes beyond financial matters and that, as such, they always have an attentive ear and sounding board in him regardless of the discussion.

When not running the business, Darren enjoys spending time with his wife and two boys, learning new instruments, and travelling. He also gives back to the community through his involvement with the Games for Hope Foundation, his participation in the reading program at his children’s school, and coaching little league soccer.

Valerie Forget

Wealth Management Advisor

Having graduated from the University of Quebec in Outaouais with a Bachelor of Finance with honours, Valérie joined The St-Georges Group as an associate advisor in January 2019.

While completing her university studies, she worked for 3 years as an administrative assistant for another financial advisory group. She is beginning her studies to earn her financial planning designation (Pl. Fin.). Valérie’s main role is to support the team by doing the behind the scenes calculations and analysis for our clients. In addition, Valerie has a natural affinity with the next generation of clients (in particular, children of our existing clients) and leads those relationships to deliver them with complete wealth management solutions to meet their evolving needs.

Stéphanie Faye

Client Service Manager

A graduate of the Institut Supérieur de Gestion de Paris as well as from Université Paris VIII, Stéphanie has been with The St-Georges Group for over 7 years as our administrative assistant. Her role is the ensure excellent client service, process and review financial transactions, as well as keep client files up to date.

Stéphanie is currently studying at the CSI to become a licensed assistant.

Francis Latour, CPA, LL.M

Regional Vice-President, Wealth Planning

As Regional Vice-President, Wealth Planning, Francis works closely with our high net worth clients to identify issues and provide complex, tactical wealth planning support that complements their wealth plans. Francis has a particular focus on tax and financial planning strategies for business owners, professionals, and other affluent individuals and families.

Francis joined CI Assante Private Client in 2016 after working as a senior tax manager in the Montreal office of KPMG Enterprise. He was part of the KPMG Enterprise tax team for five years providing corporate and shareholder income tax planning and advisory services for private companies and their shareholders, with a concentration on high net worth individuals and owner-managed businesses. Francis also spent ten years working for EY’s tax department in Montreal providing tax advice to private corporations and their shareholders. His overall professional experience in wealth planning exceeds 25 years.

Francis is a Chartered Professional Accountant with a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University and a master’s degree in taxation from HEC Montréal. He is a member of the Order of Chartered Professional Accountants of Quebec, the Association de planification fiscale et financière (APFF) and the Canadian Tax Foundation (CTF). He has presented at tax conferences such as the APFF and CTF. In addition, he has acted as a group leader for the CICA In-Depth Tax Course.

Martin Cloutier, LL.B, TEP

Regional Vice-President, Wealth Planning

As Regional Vice-President, Wealth Planning, Martin Cloutier works closely with our high-net-worth clients to identify issues and provide complex, tactical wealth planning support that complements their wealth plans. Martin has a particular focus on tax and estate planning strategies for business owners, professionals, and other affluent individuals and families. He leads the Quebec Wealth Planning team.

Martin joined CI Assante Private Client in 1998 after practicing general, personal and corporate taxation in Montreal with Desjardins Ducharme, a prominent business law firm. In addition, Martin has authored and co-authored articles for the Association de planification fiscale et financière (APFF), the Canadian Tax Foundation and other associations. His overall professional experience in wealth planning exceeds 25 years.

Martin is a lawyer with a Bachelor of Law degree from Laval University. He was called to the Quebec Bar in 1991. He also has a Master of Taxation degree from the University of Sherbrooke and the Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) designation. He is a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation, the APFF and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.

Magali Dussault-Brodeur , LL.B, TEP

Wealth Planning Consultant

As Wealth Planning Consultant, Magali works closely with our high-net-worth clients to identify issues and provide complex, tactical wealth planning support that complements their wealth plans. Magali has a particular focus on estate planning and wealth transfer strategies for business owners, professionals, and other affluent individuals and families.

Magali joined CI Assante Private Client in 2016 after practicing estate and trust law, along with family law, at several firms. During her time in private practice, Magali assisted clients with establishing and implementing individualized estate plans including their wills and protection mandates. She also helped clients with other aspects of their planning, such as the implementation of inter vivos trusts, marriage contracts and common law union agreements. Since 2015, Magali has been teaching trust law as part of the Master of Notarial Law program at Université de Montréal and has also taught it at Université de Sherbrooke. In addition, she has authored or co-authored articles for the Chambre des notaires du Québec and the Association de planification fiscale et financière (APFF). She brings over 15 years of wealth planning experience to CI Assante Private Client.

Magali is a notary with a Bachelor of Law degree, a graduate degree in notarial law, and a master’s degree in taxation, all from the Université de Sherbrooke. She also has the Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) designation. She has been a member of the Chambre des Notaires du Québec since 2009. She is also a member of the APFF and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners.
