My approach to investing in uncertain

You should expect volatility in the marketplace to continue. However, my approach to investment and, more importantly, the fundamentals of the market have not changed.  I believe:

  • Stock markets over time will rise – historically, there is a rising trend with strong bull market following a bear market.
  • A diversified portfolio will best weather a storm and well chosen stocks will perform well over the long run.
  • By staying the course and continuing to invest – buying when prices are down – you can create enhanced potential for long-term gains.
  • I believe that commodities are the best investment through downturns because they are independent of recessionary pressures. I feel there will be a continued demand for commodities based on on-going growth in China and India. The eventual recovery of the North American and European economies over the medium term will place increased demand on commodities.
  • Key to success is not to panic and let emotions change your investment strategy. Make any adjustments to meet your short-term financial needs and stay invested for the longer-term gains.

“To invest successfully over a lifetime does not require a stratospheric IQ, unusual business insight, or inside information. What’s needed is a sound intellectual framework for decisions and the ability to keep emotions from corroding that framework…” – Warren Buffett
